Armstrong is mainly rural community with many farms and dairy cattle. Its name is derived from the Shuswap language, a word that has multiple meanings as, “flat meadow”, “prairie-banked river”, “meeting of the waters”, and “beautiful valley”.
Dutch immigrants settled in the Okanagan – Armstrong valley after the World War II. They brought with them their cheese-making knowledge, creating the world renowned Armstrong cheese brand. Armstrong’s history can be seen in its museum.

Before it was named Enderby, it was known as Fortune’s Landing, named after its founder, Alexander Leslie Fortune in 1866.
